And don't forget that every seven years the Jewish calendar added an extra half month of 13-14 days to their year to make up for the fact they had 360 days rather than the 365.something days of the solar calendar. That brings you to 1947. Whoa, mind blown! What a whacky coincidence.

Since most JW's HATE giving talks and doing meeting parts, why does the Watchtower Society still require it?
by yadda yadda 2 ini loathed giving talks and doing meeting parts.
i dreaded all assignments.
i was intelligent enough and always did a good job, but all my jw life (born in to mid-30's) i enjoyed giving talks about as much as a visit to the dentist.. i am sure that 90% of all jw's similarly dislike it.

And it keeps you busy. Cults keep you busy so you have no time to think.

They haven't always believed that but they think they have. The power of suggestion, and the fact that the gb have been slowly introducing the idea for years now. In 1999 when I was studying the sister made me underline Matt 24:45 where it says fds and write in the margin, 'Governing Body'. I still have that Nwt.

Hi
by LucidChimp ini've been lurking here for a year or two now (since i stumbled across ttatt and was stumbled by it), i even started an account some while back and asked a couple of questions.. but i never actually stood up and said hi... so hi, my name's jon and i'm a dubaholic.. .
i was "born in" in the 80s - and grew up on a liquid diet of cheap suits and revelation book pictures (i mean really, group after group just staring at the pictures while not listening, i must have spent more time staring at those pictures than i have any work of art in my life, literally hours at each lurid picture).
i "left" in my teens, but apparently lacking any kind of actual sense, returned to studying with a childhood friend from the congregation in my twenties (although i was never baptised, my entire small family were dubs, so i saw more witnesses than "worldly people" on a regular basis.. they love bombed my arse for years!)..

Lol.
A jw I know, a pioneer who's been in for 40 years, told me, "that's what we've always believed".

Foreign language field - the curious Watchtower cutback?
by slimboyfat inmost of the recent watchtower cutbacks can be explained as money saving exercises: closing branches, paperback books, fewer pages in the magazines, sending bethelites home and so on.. but a few different posters have reported that the watchtower society are also cutting back on the foreign field ministry.
for many years foreign language congregations have been a major source of growth for the watchtower in many lands.
so why would they choose to scale it down?.

There would be influxes though of other first gen migrants such as speakers of Asian languages in your country just as there are here though... We have a Chinese and a Philippine group near me, and I know of Japanese groups too, all catering to native speakers. Maybe in the US they don't have enough Spanish speaking elders or something, but have enough Japanese? The Japanese group I knew had to import an elder from Japan, and the aboriginal cong used whitefellas.

Governing Body Of JW's Vs. Latter-day Saint's Prophets & Apostles
by lambsbottom inmormon.org/discoverfollow the prophetwe follow the prophet because the prophet follows god.
listening to what the prophets teach will bring us peace and guide us to heaven.. .
have you ever heard one person tell one side of a story, then heard another person tell the opposite side, and both versions sound true?

Whoa you could show this to jws as a parallel to get them thinking without raising the cult defenses. It's so parallel it's like a perfectly placed mirror!

Shame they'r not a charity to teach English to poor people because it can actually help communities, like the way those charities that set up schools do. Wt doesn't want to pay jw missionaries to give something away like English lessons without gettir something in return...
